Hi, everyone -
I'm having a problem trying to get a Sidewinder USB joystick to work
with RH 8.0. dmesg shows these messages:
hub.c: USB hub found
hub.c: 6 ports detected
usb.c: registered new driver hiddev
usb.c: registered new driver hid
hid-core.c: v1.8.1 Andreas Gal, Vojtech Pavlik <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
hid-core.c: USB HID support drivers
mice: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice
EXT3 FS 2.4-0.9.18, 14 May 2002 on ide0(3,6), internal journal
Adding Swap: 1951856k swap-space (priority -1)
hub.c: USB new device connect on bus3/2, assigned device number 2
usb.c: USB device not accepting new address=2 (error=-32)
hub.c: USB new device connect on bus3/2, assigned device number 3
usb.c: USB device not accepting new address=3 (error=-32)
The "USB device not accepting new address=3 (error=-32)" messages seem
to be the result of the system trying (and failing) to deal with the
joystick, since I see more of them show up if I unplug and replug the
joystick's connector. Also, there's no joystick under /proc/bus/usb/devices:

This is a fairly new motherboard (I can look up the specs if it'll help
-- don't remember model number offhand) that does ACPI, which could be
confusing things. Also, with other distros I've had to boot with
"noapic" because of interrupt collisions that kept eth0 from working,
but Redhat's 2.4.18-24.8.0 kernel doesn't seem to need that tweak:
[root@everest root]# cat /proc/interrupts
CPU0
0: 31272553 XT-PIC timer
1: 755 XT-PIC keyboard
2: 0 XT-PIC cascade
8: 1 XT-PIC rtc
10: 0 XT-PIC usb-ohci, usb-ohci, ehci-hcd, SiS 7012
11: 4592184 XT-PIC usb-ohci, ohci1394, eth0, nvidia
12: 15763 XT-PIC PS/2 Mouse
14: 69081 XT-PIC ide0
15: 1218955 XT-PIC ide1
NMI: 0
ERR: 0
Any hints on what could be going wrong?
thanks in advance,
Jeff
