Hey gang,

Great wierdness going on, & I'm not figuring it out (yet). I could
use some help.

Got Earthlink aDSL with a ststic IP. They use PPPoE. Got a
Broadmax aDSL modem.

The modem handles the PPPoE, and gives me a straight ethernet
connection with DHCP (As far as I can tell) to my server.

The best I can tell, the static IP sits on the WAN side of my modem,
and the modem gives my machine an address of
172.something.something.something (a nonroutable address). "ifconfig
- -a" shows me the same thing about the appropriate eth (sorry, I don't
have outputs with me).

IP masq seems to work - my MS boxes can get out through the server
(or so it appears), and the server can surf the internet as well (I
haven't tried any other utilities, yet). However, from inside the
network, if I try to go to my server by name (tomii.dnsalias.com), I
get the configuration & testpages for the modem, rather than my http
server.

Further wierdness: From work, (where I am now), it seems that I can
get the front page from my server (which is still the default apache
front page), but cannot get anywhere else. Also, SSH does not seem
to be working from outside.

More weirdness, yet: My firewall script has all of the 172.16.x.x
addresses denied from the outside world as follows:
        $IPCHAINS -A input -s 172.16.0.0/12 -d $EXTERNAL_NET -j DENY
Maybe that's part of my problem, but I just don't know.

        Any clues?
