Many times, when I run programs from the command line, I get messages
like this:

perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
        LANGUAGE = (unset),
        LC_ALL = (unset),
        LANG = "en.US"
    are supported and installed on your system.
perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C").

It's not just for Perl, of course. Most programs that I start from the
command line (Mozilla, Evolution, even Galeon) give the same error.

At first I thought it was an error in X, but I've done some hunting and
decided that this is not the case. I haven't had much luck hunting this
error down on Google, either.

Does anyone know what the error message means, and how I can fix it --
or at least make it stop showing up?
