-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I'm using RH5 with no settings in hosts.allow or hosts.deny (I need to get
it working first). I can telnet or FTP into the machine, and the machine
receives/sends mail via SMTP. But if I try to connect with a POP3 client on
a Win95 box, the connection appears to hang.

Using telnet 110 from the Win95 box, I get disconnected before the POP3
server banner is received. If I telnet 110 on the console then I get the
escape character message, then it disconnects (before the pop3 service
banner is received). SMTP, FTP, telnet, and HTTP all work fine.

I tried this fist using whatever the default pop3d service is that
installed with RH5. Then I installed qpopper 2.3 from the RPM at
ftp.redhat.com and am still getting the same results. It seems to be
something related to the POP3 service, but not to the server software
itself. I've checked /etc/services for the 'pop-3' line and added lines for
'pop' and 'pop3' just in case.

Any ideas?
