I use 'linux' as the label for my default.
It can be anything you want, but must match the 'label=" line below.
default=linux
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.18-19.7.x
label=linux
read-only
root=/dev/hda11
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.18-18.7.x
label=linux-old
read-only
root=/dev/hda11
