I have a user called web that is a generic user that we use to develop our
internal website. We set him up so that he has access to /var/www/. We can
ftp to the directory just fine using this user, but when we try and use
Putty to SSH to it, the window closes with no messages as soon as we type in
the password. We can log in successfully as other users, but not this one.
Any ideas where I should look to see why this is happening?
Sounds like he doesn't have a valid shell - check user config and/or /etc/passwd, /etc/shells.
