newbie question regarding USB

I just loaded Redhat 8 kernal 2.4.18-24.8.0 on an old Dell Poweredge 
180.  after installing the OS i put an IOGEAR USB card (model G2XCO1) 
into an empty PCI slot and rebooted.  demesg doesnt' show either ohci or 
uhci being recognized.

i did look in lib/modules/2.4.18-24.8.0/kernal/drivers/usb and found 
both uhci.o and ohci.o

my question is how do i get the USB card to be recognized?
I'm desperately trying to get a USB KVM working and obviously it won't 
if the USB card isn't working.
this is my first linux box and while i can read a manual, i might not 
know where to look in the manual. so even specific pointers to where to 
look in the manual would be valuable.
