Looks like my original post got truncated at the first "." alone as the first
char on a line. -- (trivia question everyone - why did this happen? );-)
It shouldn't. It's a bug in the way your mail sofware is implementing RFC2821/RFC2822. A single period marks the end of transmission in SMTP.
When it occurs in the user-submited data, it is supposed to be escaped by the MTA during transmission.
