yes i would prefer to use rh with sendmail and i also have webmail installed
so that users can view their mails from the internet
what are the things i need to configure in order for it to be attached to
the internet (outside world)?

1) i think i need 2 network cards? 1 for internal access (internal ip) and
the other with the public ip. do i really need 2?

2) is it better if i install rh 8.0 and then port my current settings from
my current 7.0 over (i feel that it is kind of a hassle as there are loads
of files to copy over - sendmail settings)? some of the distro is kind of
old due to the fact that i don't update them especially sendmail as i am
afraid that the original might be corrupted due to incorrect updating
procedure..

currently 7.0 using these services -
NIS+,sendmail,bind,webmail,quota,yppasswd......
not considering 7.3 as it have some sort of bug when using install
everything....cause server to hang and reboot by itself due to mailman
taking up huge space...

if port over to 8.0, will it be a pretty smooth transition?

hope that someone can answer most of my questions...

If you have a sendmail server, then you should be fine. You can add pop3
if you like (i.e. have the need). You'll definitely want a firewall,
ideally a separate box altogether or maybe an appliance that will allow
you to forward ports back. There's not a necessity to goto W2k at all,
unless you just are jazzed to get Exchange. Setting up a Linux mail
server is very simple to do and they run very well and with little need
for intervention, save updating and general maintenance. Exchange is
database-based. The information stores for Exchange are very
high-maintenance and require fairly constant care.
