I've just installed Redhat 5.1 and am trying to get things set up so
that I can record sound through my Soundblaster AWE64. I've just put
OSS/Linux (39e) in place, which has given me the ability to play MIDI
(couldn't before, kept getting "/dev/sequencer not configured" errors)
but I'm still running into problems with the audio devices.

 I've tried the "dd bs=8k count=5 </dev/dsp >test.au;
cat test.au >/dev/dsp" bit to see if the raw audio sampling is working,
and while it reads *something* for 5 seconds, the playback is pretty
much silent. I don't think cat >/dev/dsp is the problem, as I can
pipe other files to it and get sound.

 I've also installed SLab 3.0-1beta and from it I am getting "Can't
open audio device "/dev/dsp1" errors, with no further explanation.
I've configured it so that /dev/dsp0 is the output device and
/dev/dsp1 is the input.

 Anyone have any suggestions?
