has this always been happening?

I had the same issue just with KDE. I had to restart my NIS and when I did the login issue went away. Does not answer why but the problem went away.

I'm operating in a NIS/NFS environment.  I don't think that matters though.
I can login as root, which is a local account.  I can log in as myself,
which is an NIS/NFS account.  I can't login as one of my users.

It accepts his username/password and begins to login to gnome, then it hangs
and finally it drops him back out to the login window. Failsafe mode works
fine.


I removed his .gnome directory thinking that something had been corrupted
there, but no dice..  It recreated it but acted the same way as before.

Oh, I'm running Redhat 7.2 and whatever version of gnome came with it...

Any idears?
