Folks,

I think that my 4.3 GB SCSI disk is failing in my 'ol reliable (up to now, anyway) HP NetServer LD Pro using the built-in aic-7xxx SCSI adaptor. This is the disk where my root partition and swap are located (my data is on a mirrored 9 GB partition). While I'm not getting any errors with any of the applications, I get the following errors during big disk accesses:
scsi1: ERROR on channel 0, id 0, lun 0, CDB: Read (10) 00 00 00 b5 80 00 00 08 00
Info fld=0xb580, Current sd08:01: sense key Medium Error
Additional sense indicates Record not found
I/O error: dev 08:01, sector 46432
I have an exact 4.3 GB SCSI disk available for use and I'd like to move the OS over to that drive. I have the root partition backed up to 4mm DAT using 'dump'.

Would it be possible to boot with the Red Hat 8 CD, format the 4.3 drive with the root and swap partitions and then using 'restore' to the new disk? If so, what would I have I missed with my assumption of:
Shutdown the system
Replace the failing 4.3 GB disk with the new 4.3
Boot with CD
Enter into rescue mode
Use fdisk to format /dev/sda into /dev/sda1 as swap and /dev/sda2 as /
Use restore to restore from 4mm onto the / (/dev/sda2) partition
Reboot the server

Thanks!

Cheers,
Mike
