here is the most basic way to use it.

say you have a file on a website located at www.thedrool.com/thefile.tar.gz 
and you want to put in in your home directory. type these commands and ye 
shall have success.

cd ~
wget http://www.thedrool.com/thefile.tar.gz


That's all there is to it.
