Hello there,

My linux PC immediately hanged up whenever I tried to access the external tape drive which is connected to a Adaptec host adaptor as the sole SCSI device.

For example, when I typed "mt -f /dev/st0 status," the following error message was returned and the whole PC simply hanged up.
==========================================================================
(scsi2:A:3): 40.000Mb/s transfers (20.000 MHz, offset 32, 16 bit)
(scsi2:A:3:0): parity error detected in Data-in phase. SEQADDR(0x1a2) SCSIRATE(0x95)
==========================================================================

Could any one out there please tell me how to solve this problem?

The details of my linux PC are as follows.

OS: RedHat 8.0 (updated kernel: 2.4.20-18.8smp)
CPU: dual Xeon 2.4GHz
Motherboard: MSI 860D Pro (chipset Intel 860)
Tape drive: HP Surestore DAT 40e
SCSI host ad! aptor: Adaptec Ultra 160 (aic7899 and 19160)

I have tried to download the latest rpm drivers from Justin's website (http://people.freebsd.org/~gibbs/linux/) but "segmentation fault" was obtained when I used "rpm -ivh driver.rpm" to update the driver.

I am really desperate to make the tape drive work! Thank you very much for your help.

Lam.
