The other way round works a lot better - I've set up procmail so that all list mail I get is sorted into separate folders. Spamassassin only gets to see what's left after that. Much better performance. The only downside is, that spam isn't filtered out when it comes via a mailing list, but those are few and far between, fortunately even on the open, unmoderated lists like the OpenBSD ones.
