Wouldn't be something simple like your modem going dead, or phoneline
going to noise? The software, once setup, *shouldn't* go wandering off 
to change it's own settings (though, upgrading kernels in the 2.1.xx range
necessitates a couple of changes), hardware, however, can fail 
anytime. Another thing to consider, is that your ISP has changed
something. It would not be unheard of an ISP switching to MSCHAP, from say 
perhaps PAP/CHAP,  without notifying anyone, because obviously, all the
win95 based machines out there will continue as if nothing has 
happened. I hazard a guess, this might be a pain in the side for us linux
folks. Food for thought.
