Hello,

I'm in a real bind to get X set up on an older system that is going to
be used as a PPP server. X is basically just for the onsite users to
have a pretty interface to do some user management and use xbru. Right
now MetroX is running on it and using and IBM VGA driver. this does not
work well at all. 16 colors is the highest I can go. I'd like to go
800x600 and 256 colors but if I can't just having 256 colors will be
fine.

I have an OTI077 chip on the card and i believe it's got 512k of memory.
When I run configX it does not list Oak Technology in it's list of
cards.

The OTI077 is listed in the XFree86 list of supported card though. What
should I do? The Red Hat manual says that MetroX supports more cards
than XFree86. If I do have to switch to XFree86 what packages do I have
to uninstall and then install and what X server should I use. I don't
see an Oak RPM file.

help,

Rob Goodwin
