Well that seems to have gotten rid of the errors :) I was starting X 
with 'startx' (as per the redhat installers guide) apparently this 
bypasses xauth! Might want to put that in the next version of the 
book boys :P

Just for interest sake does anyone know how to get xauth to run 
without using xdm? it seems sily to run xdm on a single machine 
system. Nice pic tho' :)
