I run my own compiled distribution derived from the Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1 
SRPMS.  If you run one of the later kernels (2.4.9-e.25) it will work fine 
with the onboard gigabit on the DL380 G3.  These kernels will use the tg3 
driver.  I have had no stability problems with RHAS 2.1 on Compaq DL380 G3 
servers.

I assume the official Red Hat version that includes quartely updates will 
include a more recent kernel which should automatically work with the DL380 G3 
gigabit NICs. 

I build ISOs that include all of the RHAS errata packages.  I can confirm these 
ISOs automatically detect the DL380 G3 gigabit during installation.
