ok, then there are no such as
glibc-common-2.3.2-4.80.6.i686.rpm available, only
glibc-common-2.3.2-4.80.6.i386.rpm. could I use the
"glibc-common-2.3.2-4.80.6.i386.rpm" with
glibc-2.3.2-4.80.6.i686.rpm?

actually most of glibc related packages are marked
with i386.rpm. only two packages:
"glibc-2.3.2-4.80.6.i686.rpm" and
"glibc-debug-2.3.2-4.80.6.i686.rpm" are marked as
i686.

could I just use those i386 packages? my best guess
would be "yes" ...
