This has probably come up before (or something similar), but I couldn't find anything useful on google or the groups.
Basically I've got a set of servers that need to be relatively low administration. They're shared LTSP servers running galeon, gimp, openoffice etc. Occasionally a user's application will fall over and then suck all the life out of the server.
What I was thinking was that it would be nice if processes that go mental would get killed automatically. For instance, the other day a user's gimp fell over, and munched up 350Meg of RAM. It would be nice to be able to set a threshold of, say 100Mb, and get the process killed if it goes over that threshold.
Alternatively, is there any way of separating out user processes so that the system stops them from eating up 100% CPU, or more than an allocated amount of RAM for instance?
Anyone have any ideas?
Cheers
