Hi Mike,

I don't know or recall what versions of sendmail I've previously
used, but basically what comes out of the box with Suse 8.1, Redhat
6.2, 7.3, Mandrake 8.0, 8.1, 9.0, 9.1.

However, I don't think what you've typed here applies in my case -
DNS clearly CAN resolve virgin.net, otherwise I wouldn't be able to
run fetchmail against mail.virgin.net.

dino:/home/jg 4$ host virgin.net
virgin.net has address 194.168.54.50
dino:/home/jg 5$
