I tried setting /etc/inittab so I could boot to runlevel 3 (non-GUI) and then switch to runlevel 5 from there, but my screen just goes to a bunch of indecipherable characters and a flashing green-and-red cursor. Finally I reverted to my old graphics settings, not knowing what else to do. Can someone please help me to fix this problem so I can boot into X without having my system crash?
