Well...   i know guessing is considered a sin....  but i'm pretty sure where
i'm headed anyway so here goes...  ;o)

Did you download it from the same site each time ?  Maybe it was bad on
that site ?  If you run:

rpm2cpio red-carpet-2.0.2-0.ximian.6.1.i386.rpm  | cpio -t

do you get "unexpected end of file" error message ?  Try downloading the 
rpm from a different site... here's one:

ftp://ftp.ntua.gr/pub/X11/ximian/redcarpet/redhat-9-i386/red-carpet-2.0.2-0.ximian.6.1.i386.rpm


You'll also need the rcd rpm as well...
