I just installed RedHat 9 and have made all the updates through RHN.
When I go to set up my screensaver, if I choose "sproingies", my machine
immediately locks up without displaying anything in the little preview
window. No mouse input and although the keyboard is alive, Ctrl-Alt-F
keys do not work, nor does Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. My only recourse is to
reboot. I was able to edit my ~/.xscreensaver file and force a
different choice to avoid the lockups, but I'd like to figure out why it
is happening. I haven't tested very many other screensavers, but on my
box at home, running RHL 9, I have no problem.
I'm running on a ASUS ALiMaGiK A7A266 motherboard, 1.2GHz AMD Athlon,
with 512MB RAM and an ATI Radeon 7200.
