I've had this happen to 2 of the 3 machines I've installed RedHat 9 on. (1 using apt-get to do the upgrade, 1 using just rpm -Uvh as per the poster). I had to mount the drive in another machine and use rpm --root to remove the multiple copies of glibc that ended up installed and then install the correct one. -- Capital punishment turns the state into a murderer.
