My experience with the Lucent and other pci modems (isa as well come to
think of it) is that you have to disable the com port which the modem is
on, in the CMOS, so if your winmodem is on com1, you need to have com1
disabled in the CMOS. Assuming you want the external modem to work on the
same serial port, maybe you could leave the Lucent in its slot but simply
enable/disable the external com port in CMOS, as needed.
I've never tried it but...
