no, the patch is for security reasons. I don't remember the exact details,
but from readign the docs, I determined that the reall harm came from
allowing multiple people setting up there own pages with frontpage. Since
the guy I did this for is the only one using it, there was no additional
security risk going without the patch.
But, it certainly does work without it.
