I have my box set up (in bios) to boot without keyboard... the mouse isn't
an issue for me.

And I know you aren't supposed to telnet in as root, so i telnet in as a
regular user and SU .... but i can't run all the apps (which sucks)
because some are console locked... and since investing in a switch would
cost more than the computer, I usually have to crawl down, change over the
monitor and keyboard and mouse, climb back up, and log in that way (to run
console apps)
