Ehternet PCMCIA?

Hi,

    I would like to know if somebody has ever attemped to hook a notebook
computer running linux via an ethernet pcmcia to the internet by cablemodem.
I have been trying with an IBM ethernet pcmcia but It seems to be
unsoported. Then I found out that the 3com cards are supported but I would
like to know firstly if it is posible make such a connection and then how it
is done.
    So any advice is welcomed.
