I recently dumped pump because of its problems with using too much cpu resource on occasion and installed dhcpcd. I now have changed my /sbin/pump & entry in /etc/rc.d/rc.local with /sbin/dhcpcd & but this doesn't quite seem to do the job. First off, I run RH 6.1, kernel-2.2.14. With pump, I had originally set my eth0 device to initialize at bootup (I have DSL). At the point of the bootup when eth0 was initialized, pump would invariably stop the boot process for a LOOOOOOOOOONG time before FINALLY assigning an IP and allowing bootup to continue, thus I opted to add the above command to rc.local and eliminate the bootup stall. It worked... but sometimes, unpredictably, pump would suddenly run away and eat up 80% or more of the CPU without interruption until I killed it and restarted it. Unacceptable. It was suggested that I replace pump with dhcpcd, which I have now done but I have no idea how to really and properly set it up and run it. I have entered /sbin/dhcpcd & in rc.local but this doesn't appear to do it. After bootup and login, if I open up an xterm and try to ping anyone, including my ISP, nothing happens. I have killed dhcpcd and restarted it again and this USUALLY works...but this is not right. Something must not be working properly and I assume it is involves the proper switches for dhcpcd. I have tried looking at the man page but it doesn't help me at all. How should I go about this? How do I alter the ifup and ifdown scripts so that they will properly use dhcpcd instead of pump? The command switches are different/incompatible. Help please. -- To unsubscribe: mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe" as the Subject.
