OK, I have been trying to compile a new
2.2.14 kernel on my ThinkPad - upon which
I must have PCMCIA and support for an
Etherlink III 3c589 card. Under my present
2.2.12 kernel I have it working but when I
try to compile a new 2.2.14 kernel from
a tarball using xmenuconfig, I am not
given an option for the 3c589 (nor for an
Etherlink III card). After a successful
compile, install, and reboot, the kernel
starts up nicely, PCMCIA starts up nicely
but the card is not recognized. I cannot
find anything referring to a 3c589 anywhere
in the kernel sources - so I get screwed on
networking. I am now back again to 2.2.12
and the 3c589 module within its misc modules
directory.
How does one go about getting support for
this card? As it now appears, I wont be able
to upgrade to any new kernels from this point
and still be able to use my Ethernet card.
