not to beat this to death, but as i understand it (someone
please confirm this), you can also solve the problem by:

1) upgrading to kernel 2.2.14

2) getting the most recent modutils RPM (from rawhide, i guess)

  this suggests that this will no longer be a problem in 
red hat 6.2, right?  just curious.
