Install problem in RHL 6.1 -- help!

System: Pentium II/400 x2
        MicroStar 6120N BX board + 512MB ECC
        AMI MegaRAID 428 two channel
                Channel 1: 3x Seagate Hawk 4GB
                Channel 2: 2x IBM UltraStar 2S 4GB
        Adaptec AHA-3985 three channel
                Channel A: External Fujitsu 1.3GB MO
                           External Panasonic CD-RW 8x4
                Channel B: Seagate Barracuda 4GB
                Channel C: Plextor UltraPlex 14x-32x CD-Rom
        D-Link DFE-530TX (Via-rhine) 10/100 NIC
        D-Link DE-220ECT (NE2000) ISA NIC

Symptom: when trying to install, system hangs at trying to insmod aic7xxx.
         Previously installed RHL 6.1 out of the box using these components
         in a slightly different configuration.

         Bootdisk from 2.2.14 boot up normally, finding all components.

         All three Channels of the AHA3985 and the MegaRAID terminated,
        and configuration using AMI MegaRAID's BIOS software possible.

        Must this be a termination problem?
