That will depend on what you are doing with it...........

ie

Basic web and mail server with no X server may run ok on 16meg with a low
load > 10 -20 users (again depends on what users will be doing)

As a desktop with X server , bank on a minimum 32mb, actually, if X will be
run, 32 is a minimum really....

If you have just a kernel and say some firewall rules, no real services as
such, 8mb might do it, however it will always appreciate more.......

Also I would say that the less powerful your processor (say i386) you will
benifit by being generous with RAM

As load increases on any of the above, just keep adding as needed, or send
a more detailed question...........
