To me, this does indeed look like bad RAM. It might actually even be
something simple as bad contact. First thing I'd try would be to swap
round SIMMs and see whether anything changes. Also, have a look at
http://www.bitwizard.nl/sig11/ which has a good bit of information about
such problems.
