can you access the drive under windoze? Seagate have a set of tape
drive diagnostic utilities but only work under DOS or windows... may
be your drive is faulty? may be it's not in a properly terminated
chain? scsi can be pretty finnicky about it's setup.
if you don't have windows installed you can still run the tests by
starting up from a windoze 98 startup floppy (includes scsi support)
and then run the dos based tape drive testing utility.
