Yes, true.  BUT:  This does not mean that your machine can't be
hacked if you are on-line for long times.  If someone gets in, he can erase
your files, or do the same sort of damage that a virus could.  If you make
sure to run as a user, he will have to be a
better hacker to do serious damage to the system (hint). If you
have an always-on connection, you need a firewall.
