Its hard to be specific about what the problem is without more detail.  I
run RH6.0 which came with the defualt permissions as I wanted except for
kppp which I use to setup my connection and dialout.  This would only run as
root.  Basically someone pointed me to a webpage which told me howto sort
the problem and that has not been a problem since.  This is not the site
http://kde.sw.com.sg/documentation/en/applications/kppp/index.html but does
go part of the waty to solving the kppp problem.  It also has some links to
linux pppd sites.  My modem is on dev/ttsy0 (com1) not /dev/cua0/1 or
dev/modem.  Try in kppp if that what your using making the device something
like that.  Hope that helps slightly NH.
