Hi. Got it working with XFree86 4.0. The XF86Setup does NOT work nor
does xconfigurator under 4.0.
Somebody mentioned that and after reading the docs I started to blush
:). You have to manually setup the XF86Config file for the monitor and
screen. I strongly recommend reading the docs. They helped a great
deal.
After installing 4.0 I modified the XF86Config to use the r128 driver
but in order to get anything above 640x480 I needed to download from the
3Dfx web site their glide drivers (version 2.4 I think). Simply run
their install.
The 4.0 docs mention a tool you need to run to configure everything. I
think it's called xfree86 -configure. Once that is done you need to
modify (again) the XF86Config and change your monitor settings. You
will need to know the refresh rate and timings. I'll hopefully be able
to send you a copy of my XF86Config file tomorrow. The system is at
home.
Next time I'm going to purchase a GEForce card. Reading the docs from
their web site it's much easier and not such a chore to setup.
