Sound Volume

Hi,
    I am running redhat 6.2 and am having a problem I cannot seem to
find the answer for.  The only way that I can here sounds from linux is
to turn up my speakers all the way.  I have looked for a way to increase
the output of the sound card, (ESS 1370) but cannot find any.  Does
anyone know how to do this or a link that may help?
