Shut down your computer and remove the case.  Insert your new video card
into an unoccupied PCI slot, or AGP if that's the case.

You didn't mention if your old video adapter was an expansion card or
embedded on the motherboard.  If it's a card, pull it.  If it's embedded,
sometimes there are jumpers on the motherboard to disable it; sometimes
it's an option in your BIOS.

Once you boot up the new system, have a look at /proc/pci and
/proc/interrupts.  Check for the new card showing up, and watch
for IRQ or other resource conflicts.

If everything has gone smooth to this point, you can run "Xconfigurator"
"XF86Config" to choose the make and model of your new video card.
You may need to install a new X server if your new chipset is very
different from your old one.

So, what fancy new card are you getting anyway?
