I know little about scripting so, can't help there.

There's a file listed on Freshmeat called urmcore. I used to use it. It
worked fine for me up until I installed 6.0, so I stopped. It would say it
deleted the core file. But, as soon as the script was run the core file
could still be found in the same place it supposedly was deleted from.

Not implying it won't work with 6.0 and later. I never investigated it and
think I probably just needed to reinstall it. I just never bothered.

It runs/ran fine from cron.
