I have a dell optiplex gx1 with RH 6.1 and my computer
does the same thing. I've been in contact with the
people at dell and they told me they are aware of the
problem, but they do not know of a fix. Despite what
they told me, I'm still actively looking for a fix.

The problem is likely a software problem. I've
noticed that the sound occurs when I play wave files
and MP3 files, however, it does not happen when I play
a music CD.

Good luck! I'll let you know if I stumble on a
solution.
