wtmp error message

Afternoon Everyone:

When I try to ftp into my machine, I'm getting an error message that wtmp
is corrupted.  I did some reading, and it appears the wtmp is record of
logins to the machine.  Is there a safe way to either fix the corruption,
or can I simply delete the file and will it be created automatically or do
I need to do something like touch wtmp?
