Hiya - still trying to find bad blocks and reformat my scsi disk -
not sure if it's the way to get this working but I'm seeing loads of
these errors in /var/log/messages:
May 19 14:12:43 magma kernel: Deferred error sd08:01: sense key Medium Error
May 19 14:12:43 magma kernel: Additional sense indicates Id crc or ecc error
May 19 14:12:43 magma kernel: scsidisk I/O error: dev 08:01, sector 173690
May 19 14:12:43 magma kernel: scsi0: MEDIUM ERROR on channel 0, id 1,
lun 0, CDB: Write (6) 02 ab 39 80 00
where the sector keeps stepping up
also quite a few of these errors:
May 19 14:55:49 magma kernel: scsidisk I/O error: dev 08:01, sector 618718
May 19 14:55:54 magma kernel: SCSI disk error : host 0 channel 0 id 1
lun 0 return code = 28000002
May 19 14:55:54 magma kernel: extra data not valid Deferred error
sd08:01: sense key Hardware Error
May 19 14:56:00 magma kernel: Additional sense indicates No defect
spare location available
anyway - sounds to me like the drive is pretty unhappy. Is there a
way for me to resurrect this drive / make it happy again?
I'm running badblocks -o badblockfile ; mke2fs -l badblockfile
at the moment - but not sure if this is the right way to address
these problems...
