Go into fdisk, or cfdisk, and mark the second partation as bootable.
Your BIOS is looking at the partation table, and is not seeing any
bootable partation, so it doesn't load the boot loaded (LILO) from the
hard disk.  Note - this is BIOS dependent.  some machines boot just fine
without a bootable partation, while other give an error.
