Hi,

On Question 1: As someone else says it seems as though X is giving you
grief. I
am not much help in this area of things...

On Question 2: There is a file  /etc/securetty  which holds the secure
tty's for use by root. Add the tty's you need to this.. such as tty0,
tty1 etc.

But be careful, you hav ejust opened up your box to telnet via. root. It
would be better to setup a user account, telnet as this user and then
"su -" to root access.
