I can't remember the answer to your PPP problem as I have not run into that
for quite awhile but I do remember a lot of posts and replies in the past
year about the "can't locate module char-major-108" noted in your log file.
Check the www.moongroup.com and run a search on the archives.

Also if your running in X have you tried out "Kppp"? Not much in the way of
configuation involved and it will do a modem search and idenification for
you. I would assume PAP authentication to your ISP as most all ISP's do it
this way. Give "Kppp" with PAP authentication a try and see if you can
connect properly. It may give you some clues as to why your receiving the
"can't locate module char-major-108".
