Sounds painful (oooh)  I'd send it back and get another one.  It
shouldn't really be spinning at all by the time the tray opens.  I've
got a 42x Samsung that makes disks pretty warm after extended use (but
it's only in the kid's machine ;)

You could try one of the CD cleaner/restorer kits, but other than that,
I don't know what to tell you.  Linuxmall sells CDs for $1.89 (or free
if you buy a book or something).
